Dr. Laura L. McConnell has been awarded the status of Emeritus Fellow in Division VI. This 2020 appointment reflects her standing as a scientist and continuing service to our division and to the Union.

Dr. McConnell is an analytical chemist with more than 20 years of experience in environmental science research with a focus on agricultural topics. She currently serves as a Principal Scientist in Regulatory Scientific Affairs at Bayer CropScience in St. Louis, Missouri.
Previously, she was a lead scientist in the USDA-ARS where she specialized in the investigation of the chemical and physical processes controlling the environmental fate of agriculturally-relevant pollutants.

Dr. McConnell served continuously as a division member for approximately 15 years, serving as an officer from 2010 to 2018. During that time, she has worked to expand the number and diversity of members participating in divisional activities and to raise the profile of the division within IUPAC. She brings extensive institutional knowledge of past division activities and projects. Her continued participation in divisional meetings provides valuable continuity moving forward. She also serves an informal mentor role as new leaders come on board in the Division. She has been a very active member Advisory committee on crop protection chemistry within which she has developed several projects.

For IUPAC in general she has served as organizer of the WCLM at the Busan World Chemistry Congress; Co-chair of the IUPAC100 committee; and currently serves as co-chair of the Global Women’s Breakfast committee. She has also served as the Chair of the IUPAC United States National Committee and led the US delegation at Council during the last two biennia.
